United States Mint 2010 Silver Proof Set

U.S. Mint 2010 Silver Proof Set sales opened solid but they were also softer than the opening performances from the prior two years, according to newly released figures from the United States Mint.

From their Thursday, August 26, launch through to Sunday, buyers ordered 241,656 sets at $56.95 each, bringing the Mint more than $13.7 million dollars in revenue during the four-day period.

Annual silver proof sets are always popular with coin collectors, as the following table of past sales shows:

US Mint Silver Proof Set Debuting Sales (2008-2010)

Year Price # of Coins Issue Date 1st Sales Date 1st Reported Sales Last Reported Sales
2010 Silver Proof Set $56.95 14 Aug. 26, 2010 Aug. 29, 2010 241,656
2009 Silver Proof Set $52.95 18 July 17, 2009 July 19, 2010 271,372 694,406
2008 Silver Proof Set $44.95 14 Aug. 26, 2008 Aug. 31, 2010 292,004 774,874

The 14-coin 2010 Silver Proof Set is not completely unique in terms of coins. The five quarters, the five dollars, the nickel and the penny can be acquired through other US Mint 2010 products. However, the set is the only way to get the 2010-S Roosevelt Dime and the 2010-S Kennedy Half Dollar in silver. These two coins, like the quarters, are struck from 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper.

The 2010 Silver Proof Set may be purchased online at the Mint’s website (http://www.usmint.gov/), or by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

The next round of silvers coins from the Mint will feature the bullion America the Beautiful Silver Coins, which are the larger 3-inch diameter, five-ounce versions of this year’s national park and national forest quarters. The Mint is expected to begin producing them this fall.

John

I just received and returned my 5 silver proof sets. Why cause the reverse on the Hot Springs quarter looked lousy. It was not mirrored at all. QC is slipping prettty bad at the mint. This was on all 5 sets.
