2010 Boy Scouts Uncirculated Silver Dollar Sells Out

1

The 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Uncirculated Silver Dollar sold out today, April 26, 2010, leaving only the proof option open for unrestricted ordering. The United States Mint online store is now asking customers to join a waiting list, indicating new orders will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis and only if an old order is canceled.

[Editor’s update: The U.S. Mint pulled the uncirculated dollars from the waiting list on Thursday, April 29. They are no longer available. The proof coins are still for sale, however.]

The most recent U.S. Mint sales figures showed that the coins were nearing a sell out, with 312,653 of the 350,000 combined authorized mintage purchased as of Sunday, April 18, 2010. That was 89.3 percent of the maximum after having been available for less than a month (March 23, 2010 was the launch date for the the BSA silver dollars.)

Those figures showed a base level of just over 22,000 sales a week had been established, breaking a trend where weekly sales were halving and indicating a sell out was likely forthcoming. Then, a total of 211,333 proof and 101,320 uncirculated coins were sold.

The Mint has apparently already struck and set aside more proof coins than uncirculated to meet new demand, although it never publicly announced definitive mintage splits or per option limits.

For reference, the Mint notice follows:
