The latest United States Mint sales report is less than exciting. Only three products show week-over-week improvements. On the other hand, bullion gold and silver American Eagles displayed a touch of spunk after their prior week of easing sales. To the numbers…
Disabled American Veterans Silver Dollars followed the trend of modern commemorates — quick out of the gate, but slower as the days pass. Proofs advanced 24,784 to reach 90,993 while uncirculated sales rose 8,692 to 40,841. Together, these seven day numbers rose 33,476 following their first three days of release.
As a comparison during the same time frame, last year’s Lincoln Bicentennial dollar and Braille silver dollar rose by 57,526 and 29,430, respectively. The Lincoln $1s eventually sold out. The Braille’s did not. The DAV coins do have a lower mintage level at 350,000, but they will soon be competing with the March 23 release of the Boy Scouts Commemorative Coins.
2009 Buffalo Gold Proof Coin activity has declined now for three straight weeks. Since Jan. 31, weekly gains moved from 1,327, to 771, then to 413, and now to 384. Total sales have reached 48,396.
As suggested in last week’s report, interest in American Eagle Bullion coins picked up during the prior seven days. Gold Eagles rose by 25,500 versus 12,000. Silver Eagles advanced 750,000 compared to 425,000. If the pace is maintained for both through the remaining days of this month, Gold Eagles would have their third best March ever while Silver Eagles would enjoy their best March.

First Spouse Gold Coin sales were down this week, by more than half of last week’s performance in fact, according to the latest US Mint sales figures. The total added was 193, compared to the prior 507. Only one of the ten available 24-karat coins experienced a better-than-before sales improvement. That was the Anna Harrison proof coin. It jumped by 56, beating last week’s increase of 33.
