But even if we accept that a gold standard is not feasible for countries with strong economies. What of those with weak or fledgling ones? Might it give countries like Iraq or Afghanistan, where businesses might be reluctant to invest, a leg up until their economies are on solid footing and a fiat currency could take gold&#039;s place? At least if the country&#039;s economy fails due to something like corruption or an emerging dictatorship, the businesses could take back as much of their investments as possible in gold and convert it to a stronger currency instead of being stuck with a hyperinflationary hot potato.]]></description>
