2008-W Uncirculated Silver Eagles Jump

American Eagle Silver Uncirculated coinThe latest US Mint figures show weekly sales more than doubled for the 2008 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Set, which includes the 2008-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle. Driving them higher is the fact that the set is the only way to buy an uncirculated Silver Eagle from the US Mint this year, following the 2009 Eagle cancellations.

Sales increased by 2,180 to total 81,088. The numbers are not exactly eye-popping, but considering weekly sales had trended between 600-900 during the last several months, with more toward the bottom end, it certainly represents extra interest.

And to reiterate what we discussed here on CoinNews last week, the $37.95 price point for the uncirculated dollar set is actually less expensive than most prices found in the secondary market for just the 2008-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle. (See uncirculated 2008 W Silver Eagle prices on eBay.)

Counting the 81,088 from the set and the 444,558 sold individually, collectors have scooped up a total of 525,646 of the eagles.

The set, which also includes four 2008 Presidential $1 Coins from the United States Mint at Philadelphia, and a Sacagawea Golden Dollar from the United States Mint at Denver, is available online through the US Mint page:

They may also be purchased through the Mint’s toll-free number, 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). There is no indication as to how long they will be available.
