Sending coins by mail is not really risky, since USPS will insure any coin up to any value that you request. Even the million-dollar Hope Diamond was sent by USPS because once insured, every staff person who touches the package has to sign for it along the way. If you want both grading and appraisal, I would recommend www.accgs.org as they will holder it and appraise it for only $9 and they're owned and operated by the non-profit Beverly Hills Coin Club. If you want to sell it, some of the highest buyers are Collectorsinternet.com and GFOcoins.com, the later owned by members of the famous Osmond Brother's family.
Hope this helps,

what steps should I take and where is the next grading show located?
Could I mail it or would that be risky? Troubled in Ky.
