41st Annual American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar

ANAHobbyists of all abilities can participate in the best educational program in numismatics by enrolling in a two-day class at the 41st annual American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs, June 27-July 3 and July 4-10.

For the first time in its history, students may select from a menu of two-day classes, rather than attending the educational event for a full week. Hobbyists with an interest in numismatic education, but without the time to spend a full week in Colorado Springs can take one two-day class on June 29-30; July 1-2; July 6-7 or July 8-9. Or, students interested in combining a family vacation with Summer Seminar can choose any combination of two day classes and explore Colorado and the Rocky Mountains during their free time.

June 29-30

  • "Money of the World: Coins That Made History." Instructors: Ira Goldberg, co-editor of Money of the World: Coins that Made History, and ANA Curator Douglas Mudd;
  • "Introduction to Coin Collecting." Instructor: ANA Numismatic Educator Rod Gillis;
  • "From Rome to Romaion." Instructor: former ANA Governor Prue Morgan Fitts;
  • "Tudor Coins." Instructor: former ANA Governor Arthur M. Fitts III;
  • "World Coin Overview." Instructor: professional numismatist Benjamin Swagerty.

July 1-2

  • "Financial Planning for Collectors: If I Can’t Take it With Me, What Happens to My Collection When I’m Gone." Instructor: Certified Financial Planner Jeffrey Rarich;
  • "Train the Trainers." Instructor: Rod Gillis;
  • "Introduction to Early American Historical Medals." Instructor: professional numismatist John Kraljevich;
  • "Charles I (1625-49): Divine Right vs. the People, and the English Civil War." Instructor: Arthur M. Fitts III;
  • "Collecting the World: One Topic at a Time." Instructor: Benjamin Swagerty.

July 6-7

  • "Classic U.S. Commemoratives: Bourse Secrets of a Pro." Instructor: ANA Executive Director Larry Shepherd;
  • "Grading U.S. Paper Money." Instructor: Glen Jorde, manager of Paper Money Guaranty;
  • "Coin Care, Conservation and Preservation Methods." Instructor: NGC grader Brian Silliman.

July 8-9

  • "How to Accurately Value U.S. Coins." Instructor: U.S. coin analyst Mark Ferguson;
  • "Facing the Chinese Counterfeiting Threat." Instructors: Coin World Editor Beth Deisher, About.com editor Susan Headley, and Chinese counterfeit expert Dr. Greg Dubay;
  • "Condor Tokens." Instructor: token collector and specialist Jerry Bobbe.
