Museum Offers Collector’s Day for Youth

0

Young collectors at a museum in Arkansas can spend a day and receive tips and instructions for researching, caring for and displaying their collection — all for free, on Saturday, September 20.

Rogers Historical Museum, located in Rogers, Arkansas, is offering a Collector’s Day for children and families that includes a workshop to teach young collectors to display coins and other treasures in "museum-quality exhibits."

While the event is local, it is noteworthy for a museum to spend their time and resources to offer youth educational classes with fun hands-on activities for collectors. It is an event worthy of emulation across the nation.

The museum is also offering a morning session that includes research and presevation tips for collections provided by guest speakers.

One guest speaker will be Andrea Cantrell, Head of Research Services in Special Collections at the University of Arkansas Libraries, who will be here to discuss collecting and researching special collections materials

Collector’s Day at the Rogers Historical Museum lasts from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. The event is free, but pre-registration is required for the afternoon workshop.

Anyone interested should call 479-621-1154 by Friday, September 12 to reserve space. (See PDF flyer of event.)
