Good Day Everyone.
Has everyone noticed how drab the finish is on the 2021 Morgan and Peace dollars.
( and most new Unc coins from the US Mint too.) There was a time when an uncirculated coin had a nice wagon wheel sheen in the background with the device clearly outlined. Looking at the original uncirculated Morgans vs the 2021 issues, something was done wrong at the mint or have they lost the ability to truly give coins the luster they once had?
My Dad purchased 12 American (double) Eagle $50 fine precious metal gold coins. I am having trouble finding any information on these particular coins he purchased on Jan 28, 1988. Each coin has the roman numeral for the year 1988. They each state on the coin "1 OZ. FINE GOLD~50 DOLLARS"

Are these coins "rare" collector coins?

How can I find the true value since I cant find any online with the roman numeral year and the $50 amount. I dont know who to trust or how I can be sure not to be ripped off.

My Dad has passed and all I know is what he told me over the years. That the coins "are collector" and dont anyone tell me there not. He drilled in my head that these coins are unique. I do have the original receipt with what he paid for them in 1988. He bought them as an investment.

I even went to us mint. gov and now 1988 and no roman numeral year.
I though I found them on ebay for $4,995 with the roman numberal but when I spoke to a coin dealer he said that they are not rare and they cant be Augustin Saint Gaudin because they were not minted after 1933.

Please tell me anything that might help me. I may be selling but not so bad that I would risk getting ripped off. Either way, eventually I will sell as I get older and may need to financially, I just dont want to be stupid about it.

I have a 1944 wheat penny...not attracted to a magnet...but what is interesting is it seems someone used it in a separate stamp machine to mark a. 3/8 tall letter p in both sides of this coin..I can assume maybe a person in a machine shop somewhere used it to test a stamping machine..but it begs the question what was the process in 1944 for testing the presses and is it possible that this mark represents a indicator as a prototype coin..
