Legislation Introduced for United States Army Commemorative Coins

Recognizing United States Army

A newly introduced Senate bill would create commemorative coins to celebrate the establishment of United States Army, its heritage and role and to honor the men and women who serve and have served.

The bill was first introduced on January 30, 2008, by Senator Daniel K. Inouye [D-HI] and cosponsored by Senator James M. Inhofe [R-OK].

Royal Canadian Mint Joins Quebec City’s 400th Anniversary Celebrations

(CNW Group/Royal Canadian Mint)QUEBEC CITY, Jan. 31 - The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) visited City Hall yesterday to present Quebec City’s Mayor and invited guests from the Quebec 400th organization with a 2008 Proof Silver Dollar commemorating the 400th anniversary of Quebec City.

The coin was officially presented by Ghislain Harvey, member of the RCM’s Board of Directors and Marguerite F. Nadeau, Q.C., Vice-President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Joining Mayor Labeaume in accepting this exquisite gift was Quebec 400th Chairman Jean Leclerc.

United States Mint Tells Coin Buyers: Return to Sender

A consumer alert issued by the U.S. Mint late yesterday, October 31, warns buyers that some of the 2004 Lewis and Clark Coin and Pouch Sets are not authentic.

Under the best of circumstances, that’s hard news to publicize. But it’s not all dim and grim either. The Mint made a positive announcement and they’ve gone further by offering refunds with a payment of up to $130. What are the details?

The special Mint sets in question were originally issued at a price of $120. They were limited in quantity and fairly popular - popular enough to sellout in 23 days.

Abraham Lincoln Gets a Super Bicentennial Birthday Bash

The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial celebration is arriving in 2009. New Cents and Commemorative Silver Dollars will be a part of his 200th birthday celebration. But, they must be designed first and the CCAC has hand in that. His gifts? They’re already in the works - hundreds of millions in new cents and up to 500,000 commemorative silver dollars.

Similar to the state commemorative quarters and Presidential $1 Coins, the Lincoln cent is getting a redesign.

Four cents - each with a different theme and release date - will start flowing into your pocket change in early 2009.
