One Hundred Million Pennies Photographed: The Penny Harvest Field

The Common Cents Penny Harvest Field is a spectacular event with approximately one hundred millions pennies gathered by New York City children in 2007. All the pennies are for charities that the children will select.

Toward the end of each year, the pennies are trucked to the Rockefeller Center in New York City and are placed in a specially engineered and constructed "penny lane".

Penny Harvest Field Opens: It’s Built By Children and All for Charity

Stack of PenniesEvery year New York City children from participating schools collect pennies from family, friends and neighbors.

These pennies don’t make their way into piggy banks or Lincoln coin collections.

Instead, the children put their pennies together and they’re literally trucked to the Penny Harvest Field, an enormous and specially designed penny-holding structure in Rockefeller Center.

It’s here where the children can see the massiveness of their collection and can better grasp how their combined efforts and hard work will pay off for charities they’ll later select.

Two Coins Fetch Nearly 700K in Bowers and Merena 9.4M Baltimore Auction

Bowers and Merena Auctions was the Official Auctioneer in the recent Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention. It proved to be an exciting show realizing more than $9.5M and having over 3,000 coin and over 1,000 currency lots.

Some exceptionally exquisite coins were auctioned, including a $368,000 1854-O Liberty Double Eagle graded AU-50 by PCGS and a 1916 Buffalo Nickel Doubled Die Obverse in PCGS MS-64 that realized $316,250. The truly fine coins - the best at the auction - were only two from a strong list of excellent coin offerings at the Baltimore event.
