Coin and Medal Collector Products for 2008 by the United States Mint

Mint Coin CalendarThe United States Mint has provided their coin and medal release schedule to the end of November of 2008.

The Mint has been relatively conservative in its listings this year by normally showcasing just a handful of upcoming products set for release.

No longer. The new schedule nearly closes out the calendar year.

Taking a glance at the quantity of products and release dates shown heightens the awareness of the volume of collector coins and medals the Mint produces. It is rather impressive when considering each type and series along with the hundreds of millions of circulating coins the Mint releases each year.

United States Mint Coin and Medal Release Schedule through May of 2008

Coins and scheduleThe United States Mint has updated their online product schedule to include coin and medal releases through May of 2008.

While the schedule is always subject to change and coin announcements will be released when new coins and medals become available, the release list at least provides a fairly accurate snapshot for what is likely to come and when.

Perhaps most notable on the updated list is the scheduled release of the 2008 Sacagawea Golden Dollar Bags and Rolls on April 28. The U.S. Mint had announced the upcoming sale of Sacagawea dollar coins earlier in the year, but quickly pulled its notice with concerns over the legal technicalities in minting them.

And Just Like That, the Jefferson Spouse Coins Were No More

Front of the proof Jefferson Liberty Spouse coin. (United States Mint image.)It’s not really news. It was expected. The Jefferson Liberty First Spouse Coins sold out. And fast! Both the 1/2-ounce proof and the 1/2-ounce uncirculated versions were hot items. Like the previous Martha Washington and Abigail Adams Spouse coins, they were gone within hours. 40,000 coins taken in a blink of an eye!

Well, not quite a blink. Many who ordered them would say it seemed like an eternity.

For those who were lucky enough to get in on the rush and buy one of the coins, the ordering experience wasn’t exactly fun. Although, you could say the anticipation was exciting!

Will they sell out? Very Likely! This isn’t the first series in the batch. Back in June, both the Martha Washington and Abigail Adams Spouse versions were said to have sold out within 2 hours.

Idaho State Quarter Out, Wyoming State Quarter In

United States Mints produce new coins en masse days, weeks and many times months prior to a coin’s actual official release date. They have to be ready for the demand and the distribution of millions and millions of coins in a relatively short period of time.

The Idaho quarter, the third state quarter released for this year and the 43rd of the series within the 50 State Quarters® program, had an official release ceremony just days ago. These public ceremonies are the apex and, you could say, official conclusion of sorts for new coin releases. The official focus must move quickly to the next series of coins about to be released.

In fact, already hitting the news is talks of the Wyoming state quarter. This quarter won’t be released for circulation until next month but, as mentioned earlier, is already being minted for circulation at the Denver Mint.

One article stands out about the quarter and it’s by online Wyoming news source, Casper StarTribune. Why? They’ve made a video. Check out their “behind the scenes” video footage of the Wyoming state quarter in production at the Denver Mint on August 6th.
