United States Mint Director Ed Moy to Host Public Forum

The United States Mint has announced that Director Moy will host a public forum at the Baltimore 2008 ANA World’s Fair of Money® on Friday, August 1.

The meet and greet event offers coin collectors the opportunity to ask questions, and receive answers directly from the head of the U.S. Mint. Directory Moy has held public coin forums for appreciative collectors several times this year. This latest one is sure to be a highlight of the convention for many.

Braille Coin Design Unveiling: Video from Dallas

Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar PrototypeUS Mint Director Ed Moy revealed the design and a prototype of the commemorative Louis Braille Bicentennial coin at the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) annual convention in Dallas, TX on July 2.

Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar Prototype and Coin Design Images

Louis Braille commemorative silver $1 coins design images and a prototype of its readable Braille reverse were unveiled today by U.S. Mint Director Moy at the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) annual convention in Dallas, Texas. 400,000 commemorative silver coins will be issued in 2009 in both proof and uncirculated versions to honor the bicentennial birth and achievements of Louis Braille.

United States Mint Director Moy to Reveal Louis Braille Silver Dollar Coin Design

Louis BrailleThe United States Mint announced today that Mint Director Ed Moy will unveil the commemorative 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar coin design in Dallas, TX on Wednesday morning, July 2, 2008.

The ceremony at AT&T Plaza at the American Airlines Center in Dallas will open the National Federation of the Blind’s 2008 National Convention, an organization dedicated to improving blind people’s lives and recipient of $10 surcharges collected for each Braille commemorative coin sale.

The 400,000 limited issue proof and uncirculated $1 silver dollars will be the first Braille readable coin in the U.S., and honors the bicentennial of the birth of Louis Braille — an extraordinary person and the creator of the Braille reading and writing system for those who are blind or have vision loss.

U.S. Mint Responds to Law Requiring Six New Quarters

Late last night, the United States Mint responded to the portion of the new law President Bush signed two days ago that mandates the addition of six new commemorative quarters. In a statement, Mint Director Ed Moy said:

 

“The 50 State Quarters® Program has been the most popular coin program in U.S. history, generating billions of dollars that have been used to pay down the National debt,” said United States Mint Director Ed Moy. “We look forward to honoring the District of Columbia and the U.S. Territories by minting and issuing six quarters in 2009 that will build upon the success of a program that has educated a generation in state geography and history.”
