2011 Commemorative Gold CoinsThe United States Mint released a new price guide for commemorative gold coins which determines coin prices weekly based on the direction of gold.

The U.S. Mint had suspended four 2011-dated commemorative gold coins on August 12 "due to the current market volatility" of precious metals. Each of the coins includes 0.2419 ounces of gold, which had brought their melt values very close to their selling prices [...]

2011 Medal of Honor and US Army Commemorative Gold Coins

The United States Mint is again selling commemorative gold coins after a thirteen-day suspension. The Mint on Thursday also brought back two suspended silver sets following six days of absence.

Volatile and surging precious metals prices were the designated culprits for triggering the product suspensions. And although gold and silver have fallen from their heights in mere days — ironically, the two metals are lower now than when the products were first suspended — the commemorative gold coins return on sale at higher prices (+$79.35 each) while prices for the silver sets are unchanged. United States Mint Gold Collector Coins

Price hikes for United States Mint collector gold coins were forestalled Wednesday after gold prices plummeted by more than $100 in a single day and moved below $1,760 an ounce.

The United States Mint returned to selling 12 of 16 gold coins at 12:00 noon ET. And, thanks to gold’s plunge, the collector coins cost the same as when they were preemptively suspended Monday after the yellow metal rocketed toward $1,900 an ounce [...]

The action, as conveyed in a previous article published on Friday, was not completely unexpected based on gold’s explosive jump — the yellow metal in New York has surged nearly $150 in six days [...]

United States Mint Gold Collector Coins

The near ballistic rise in gold has resulted in another series of United States Mint price increases for its gold collector coins. On Wednesday, the Mint pulled the trigger on the latest round of hikes — the fourth in five weeks. Coin prices since July have been raised on a per coin basis from as little as $25 to as high as $462.50. On Friday, the Mint suspended two of its older silver sets as silver topped $42 an ounce.

Current gold prices should hold until Wednesday morning, although with gold soaring to successive all-time record highs — at $1,850.40 an ounce as of this writing — a preemptive suspension like last week could potentially be in play [...]

2011 Commemorative Gold Coins

Raging gold prices are disrupting United States Mint gold coin sales. The bureau on Friday stopped selling commemorative gold coins just three days after a similar suspension was implemented throughout collector pieces, including the American Gold Eagles, American Gold Buffalo and each of the First Spouse Gold Coins. The suspensions came as melt values of the coins raced toward their retail prices.

"The United States Mint has suspended sales of commemorative gold coins for re-pricing," the bureau said in a statement. "Due to the current market volatility, we will be placing these coins [...]
