No one can really get into the psyche of buyers, but different indicators are exposed now compared to the previous spouse coins that sold out like hot cakes.

Artist Renderings of the 2008 First Spouse Gold Coins

This morning, November 19, the United States Mint unveiled artist renderings of the First Spouse Gold coin designs for 2008. Each will be 24-karat (.9999-fine), 1/2-ounce in weight and are a continuation of this year’s spousal coins that have sold out within hours of their release.

The forth coin in this series, the Dolley Madison First Spouse Gold coin, went on sale today at 12 noon (ET).

Two of the 2008 coins will commemorate Elizabeth Monroe and Louisa Adams. In addition, there will be two symbolic Lady Liberty designs for Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren, who did not have spouses while in office.

And Just Like That, the Jefferson Spouse Coins Were No More

Both the 1/2-ounce proof and the 1/2-ounce uncirculated versions were hot items. Like the previous Martha Washington and Abigail Adams Spouse coins, they were gone within hours. 40,000 coins taken in a blink of an eye!

Well, not quite a blink. Many who ordered them would say it seemed like an eternity.

For those who were lucky enough to get in on the rush and buy one of the coins, the ordering experience wasn’t exactly fun. Although, you could say the anticipation was exciting!
