Time is running out to order 2008 Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins, the United States Mint reminded collectors in a notice Wednesday. Sales for all options end Friday, December 12, at 5 p.m. (ET).

All three legal tender coins (gold, silver & clad) celebrate the successful recovery and restoration of the Bald Eagle to America’s skies and the upcoming 35th Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act on December 28.
Surcharges payments of $35 per gold piece, $10 per silver coin, and $3 for each clad commemorative are made to the American Eagle Foundation (AEF), which is not-for-profit dedicated to protecting the majestic Bald Eagle and its habitat. Read the rest of this entry »
Vibrant American Bald Eagle coin designs were released December 5th, 2007 and the US Mint pulled away the curtains to offer them for sale on January 15, 2008.

A $5 gold coin, a $1 silver coin and a half-dollar clad coin all honor the American Bald Eagle in 2008. These three coins are also issued in special commemorate Proof and Uncirculated versions. Information, high quality coin images, prices and ordering information are below.

It could be the largest coin ever, coming in at a weight of 12 tons, a height of 7 meters (~23ft) and a depth of 70 cm (~2.3ft). You could stand from a very long distance away and still make out its golden color, royal portrait and finely detailed rim. You’d probably say it looks like a huge British one pound coin.
Is it too big to be true? In one word… Yes.
Although called a coin, it’s actually made of wood and isn’t legal tender. But it does have a sizable symbolic value. The wooden "coin" was completed and its sized used to symbolize the 50 million pound coins it could apparently hold. (Approximate US value of $101 million.)
It was rolled out today to mark the beginning of the UK public vote in deciding where £50m will be awarded, the largest amount ever, by the Big Lottery Fund. The final four environmental groups competing for the money are:

London is the host city for the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012. Billions will be spent on infrastructure and other improvements in supporting the Olympic Games.
To hit timelines and get ready for the games, construction work has already begun.
That work has resulted in interesting archeological discoveries while digging for the planned Aquatics Centre in Stratford, east London.
In what looks to be an area that was once a small settlement, pottery from the 4th century and an old Roman coin were found buried beneath a river wall.
