The James Monroe United States Mint Presidential $1 Coin and Elizabeth Monroe First Spouse Medal Set is now available for a price of $7.95.
The set was released Wednesday, August 6, and includes an uncirculated Monroe Presidential dollar coin and a bronze medal bearing the likeness of the Elizabeth Monroe First Spouse gold coin.
James Monroe dollars were the first $1 coins released in 2008, and the fifth in the Presidential series.

The 2008 First Spouse gold coins and bronze medal honoring Elizabeth Monroe are now on sale by the United States Mint. The Monroe gold coins are the first for 2008 and fifth in the First Spouse Gold Coin Series - a series that started off blazing hot.

The first three spousal coins were on fire and sold out within hours of their release. Secondary markets through eBay and the likes could not hold enough of the coins and their resell values were through the roof.

This morning, November 19, the United States Mint unveiled artist renderings of the First Spouse Gold coin designs for 2008. Each will be 24-karat (.9999-fine), 1/2-ounce in weight and are a continuation of this year’s spousal coins that have sold out within hours of their release.
The forth coin in this series, the Dolley Madison First Spouse Gold coin, went on sale today at 12 noon (ET).
Two of the 2008 coins will commemorate Elizabeth Monroe and Louisa Adams. In addition, there will be two symbolic Lady Liberty designs for Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren, who did not have spouses while in office.
