PCGS TrueView Coin Imaging at Baltimore Show

Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) will give collectors and dealers a special opportunity to have their PCGS-graded coins digitally imaged with the PCGS TrueView photo service on-site during the first two days of the Whitman Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention at the Baltimore Convention Center, November 12 - 15, 2009.

"The PCGS TrueView service offers quality images that quality coins deserve. TrueView images are among the finest in the numismatic hobby," said Don Willis, President of PCGS, a division of Collectors Universe, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT).

"The onsite coin imaging is offered in conjunction with any PCGS show service except for crossovers. Attendees at the Baltimore show also have the option of submitting PCGS-graded coins for imaging only."

Millions Lost From Counterfeit Coins, Hobby Leaders Warn

(Fallbrook, California) – Chinese-made counterfeit coins pose a significant financial threat to unsuspecting consumers, according to leaders of five of the country’s most influential rare coin organizations. They warn the public is spending millions of dollars on fake U.S. coins offered in online auctions and elsewhere, such as flea markets and swap meets.

In a jointly-issued consumer advisory (below) the groups caution the public not to purchase any so-called "replica" coins because they may be in violation of federal law. They also urge consumers to only purchase genuine rare coins from reputable, professional dealers or face the risk of losing money on copies that are illegal to re-sell. PCGS will also offer on-site authentication and grading services for collectors and dealers submitting coins for certification at the show.

Collectors and dealers can meet PCGS President Don Willis during an informal “Meet the Expert” session at the booth (#1307) on Friday, March 27. He will be available to give personal opinions about your coins from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day.

PCGS and New Zealand Mint Establish Coin Certification Agreement

New Zealand Mint 1 OZ Gold Bullion CoinA new international partnership has been established between the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and the New Zealand Mint, one of the first world mints to adopt the .9999 standard for gold coin purity.

Under the agreement PCGS will grade selected examples of the mint’s new commemorative and bullion issues, such as the gold Kiwi bullion coins, and will establish a submission center at the mint in Auckland, New Zealand for the convenience of local collectors and dealers to submit coins for PCGS certification.

 

"PCGS is pleased to partner with the New Zealand Mint to allow submissions of vintage as well as modern commemorative issues for authentication and grading.  This will help expand the use of third-party certification there.

PCGS Grades First Submitted 2009 Ultra High Relief $20 MS70

First PCGS Graded 2009 Ultra High Relief $20 Double EagleThe first new 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin was certified by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) on Friday, February 13.  It was graded Mint State 70.

 

"We were thrilled to examine the first submitted example of this eagerly anticipated modern masterpiece. 

It’s one of the finest designs ever created for United States coinage and a testament to the excellence of the United States Mint," said Don Willis, President of PCGS, a division of Collectors Universe, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT). 

 

The coin was submitted by collector Charles Camp of Savannah, Georgia who said he was thrilled with the certification: "I’ve always been a big admirer of PCGS, and I think it’s a great thing."

PCGS Establishes Groundbreaking International Program With Polish Mint

PCGS and Polish Mint Exchanging ContractsA precedent-setting international partnership is being set up between the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and Mennica Polska, the Polish Mint, to grade the mint’s new commemorative coins as well as to establish a submission center at the mint in Warsaw, Poland for the convenience of local collectors and dealers to submit coins for PCGS certification.

The announcement of the new partnership was jointly made by PCGS and the Polish Mint at the World Money Fair in Berlin, Germany on February 5, 2009.

"This new program will facilitate the submissions of Polish and Eastern European collectors and dealers for both vintage and modern world coins.  It will offer them a central, secured and efficient point of submission with the highly-reputable Mennica Polska where they can send and receive back the coins they entrust to PCGS for grading," said Don Willis, PCGS President.

Jacek Jakobczak, Polish Trade and Marketing Deputy Director, stated: "Mennica Polska is looking forward to partnering with PCGS in Eastern Europe for the submission of new commemorative modern issues and acting as a submission center for modern and vintage coins for our collectors and dealers."
