Krause Publications Presents World Mints with 2008 Coin of the Year Award

World Coin News editor Dave Harper (left) serves as master of ceremonies.Canada’s destiny was in the stars as it won the 2008 Coin of the Year Award sponsored by World Coin News, a monthly periodical dedicated to collectors of world coins.

A four-piece set of $50 palladium coins showing the Big Bear and Little Bear constellations in changing seasonal positions was voted the winner in the second round of balloting by an international panel of judges. They are KM-672-675 in the Standard Catalog of World Coins identification system.

The Royal Canadian Mint Wins Coveted Awards at the 2008 World Money Fair in Berlin, Germany

Ottawa, Ontario – The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) added to its star-studded line up of award-winning coins when Krause Publications bestowed the Coin of the Year and Most Innovative Coin Awards on the RCM’s laser-etched $50 Palladium Big Bear and Little Bear Constellations coin series at the 2008 Coin of the Year Awards.

Coin of the Year: Voting Opened to Collectors and Public

Coin of the Year award, sponsored by World Coin NewsThe Coin of the Year (COTY) event is in its remarkable 25th year of honoring mints from around the world that produce coins of beauty with meaning.

For the first time ever, observers of the contest can also vote. An entirely new category, the "People’s Choice" Award, is open to coin collectors or, for that matter, anyone in the public who cares to vote.

The COTY and the "People’s Choice" Award is a World Coin News sponsored event. Its editor, David C. Harper, remarked in the announcement,
