The uncirculated 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollar sold out on Monday, with anyone placing new orders asked to join a waiting list in the hopes of an older order getting canceled and theirs then stamped with an approval. That option has past. The United States Mint on Thursday afternoon removed the uncirculated [...]
There are less than 20,000 of the 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollars left, the United States Mint revealed in its latest sales report Tuesday morning.
Since their debut on March 23, 2010, and through to Sunday, April 25, 2010 — just over a month, the U.S. Mint has sold a total of 330,602 BSA coins. That represents 94.5 percent of the maximum 350,000 mintage.
Split across options, the proof tally is now 223,310 and the uncirculated 107,292. And since the uncirculated Scouts coins sold out (a waiting list is in effect), the remaining 19,398 will be available for proof orders only.

The 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollars premiered from the US Mint just two weeks ago and not surprisingly, mintage limits are fast approaching and the secondary market is already seeing a decent trade in these commemorative strikes.
Customers were initially able to place orders for the Boy Scout coins beginning on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. The first few hours of availability due to demand saw troublesome issues for those trying to complete their transactions, both via the Mint’s website and through the Mint’s telephone ordering system.
This did not hamper sales much, with more than 200,000 sold in 4 days. The latest Mint’s sales figures as of Sunday, April 4, show an astonishing 266,517 of the pieces were sold, with 179,976 proof and 86,541 uncirculated for a weekly increase of 51,844. More than 76 percent of the maximum authorized mintage are now gone.

The sales figures have smashed those of the 2010 Disabled American Veteran commemorative that have been on sale for longer, and have topped last year’s opening sales week of the extremely popular 2009 Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial commemorative which eventually sold out.

Early ordering proved to be challenging, fraught with multiple disconnections on the U.S. Mint’s Web site as well as through its toll free phone lines. The pattern was nearly identical for the many collectors who experienced frustrations when ordering last year’s Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set. Then, the Mint was quick to issue a customer apology, and the 50,000 sets sold out within 30 hours.

With the release of the 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollars only one day away (March 23, 2010), the United States Mint has started advertising their availability in mailed brochures, and the coins are already starting to appear in the secondary market on sites like eBay.
For the latter, auctions found on eBay are, of course, pre-selling the coins. No individual has them. Shipment notices indicate they will only be available to winning bidders after the coins are received from the United States Mint.
At this time, only a handful of sold auctions have featured the Boy Scouts Commemorative Coins. The first one premiered last month. However, since then, several more have been added, bringing the number of auctions to over the dozen mark.
