2008-W Uncirculated Silver Eagles Jump

American Eagle Silver Uncirculated coinThe latest US Mint figures show weekly sales more than doubled for the 2008 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Set, which includes the 2008-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle. Driving them higher is the fact that the set is the only way to buy an uncirculated Silver Eagle from the US Mint this year, following the 2009 Eagle cancellations.

Sales increased by 2,180 to total 81,088. The numbers are not exactly eye-popping, but considering weekly sales had trended between 600-900 during the last several months, with more toward the bottom end, it certainly represents extra interest. Read the rest of this entry »

US Mint Uncirculated Silver Eagles Still on Sale

 2008 United States Mint Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin SetThe 2009 Silver Eagle coin cancellations sting many collectors the most following yesterday’s US Mint announcement that it would not offer several long awaited and anticipated 2009 products.

For many weeks now, collector questions, concerns and worry increased about the possibility of this very thing happening — especially to the proof Silver Eagle. The thought of forever having a gapping hole in a 23-year old collection is severely disappointing, but now a reality.

2008 American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Individual Coins Unavailable

American Eagle Silver Uncirculated coinIndividual 2008 American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins were pulled from the United States Mint online store Friday and moved to the "No Longer Available" page.

The collector silver coins with the "W" mintmark first went on sale on March 17, 2008 for the price of $25.95. Mint numbers show 444,558 individual coins have been sold.

The Thursday posted Mint sales figures unusually reported a zero increase for the coins compared to last week — perhaps indicating buyers were turned away from completing a purchase before the coins were actually delisted from the Mint’s sales pages. 2008 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set Announced

 2008 United States Mint Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set2008 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Sets will be available for purchase on Thursday, August 7 at 12:00 noon ET.

The United States Mint today announced that each set is priced at $37.95, and will include this year’s four Presidential $1 Coins minted in Philadelphia with the "P" mint mark.

  • James Monroe $1 coin,
  • John Quincy Adams $1 coin,
  • Andrew Jackson $1 coin, and the
  • Martin Van Buren $1 coin

Plus, the two remaining 2008 denominated dollar coins:

  • Sacagawea Golden Dollar, and an
  • American Eagle uncirculated silver dollar

The Sacagawea $1 is minted in Denver with a "D" mint mark while the American Eagle Silver dollar bears the mint mark "W" indicating it was minted at West Point.
