War in the Pacific National Historical Park Silver Bullion Coin

in 2019 National Park Coins

The War in the Pacific National Historical Park Silver Bullion Coin will be released by the US Mint as the forty-eighth issue of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program. This silver uncirculated coin also marks the third of five to appear in 2019 and will feature a reverse design emblematic of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park found in the United States territory of Guam. As of this posting, a release date for the coin was unknown.

Like other coins of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion series, this strike will be composed of five ounces of .999 fine silver. The coin will have a diameter of three inches which gives this series of coins the distinction of being the largest bullion products produced by the US Mint.

The strikes are minted at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia. However, as a bullion product of the US Mint, no mintmark will be present on them.

The obverse of the coin will contain a portrait of George Washington, as originally designed by artist John Flanagan. The portrait was originally created for use on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar and has been seen on quarters in one form or another ever since. Since these bullion coins are based on a series of circulating quarters, the same portrait will be used as is found on the quarters. Surrounding Washington’s image will be the inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.

Showcased on the reverse of the coin will be a design emblematic of the historical park. Final design information for the coin should be known by sometime in late 2018. The design will include, however, the inscriptions of WAR IN THE PACIFIC, GUAM, 2019 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

War in the Pacific National Historical Park of Guam

The War in the Pacific National Historical Park is found on the island of Guam, a territory of the United States. The park was established by an Act of Congress on August 18, 1978.

Making this park unique from all others is the fact that it honors all those who participated in the Pacific Theater of World War II. This includes both forces from the Allies like the United States, Great Britain and Australia as well as members of the armed forces of Japan.
