Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site Silver Bullion Coin

in 2021 National Park Coins

The Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site Silver Bullion Coin will be the last strike issued by the US Mint in the original fifty-six release America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program. Showcased on the reverse of the 2021 silver bullion coin will be a design emblematic of the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site found in the state of Alabama. A final release date for the coin was not known at the time of this posting.

Like the other coins of this series, each will be struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches. The coin is produced by the US Mint as a low-cost option for investors to add small amounts of precious metals to their portfolios with a government guarantee of weight and purity.

With this release, a total of fifty-six coins will have been issued in the series effectively ending the original run of the program authorized by Congress. However, either Congress of the Secretary of Treasury may opt to renew the program for a complete second run which would start immediately following the release of this Tuskegee Airmen Coin.

The obverse of each America the Beautiful related coin contains the same obverse portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. The portrait of Washington was originally designed by John Flanagan decades ago. It will be surrounded by the inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.

Shown on the reverse of each coin is the design emblematic of the selected site of national interest, in this case the Tuskegee historic site. This design will be surrounded by the inscriptions of TUSKEGEE AIRMEN, ALABAMA, 2021 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site of Alabama

The Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site of Alabama was created by an Act of Congress on November 6, 1998. It encompasses slightly more than 44 acres devoted to the memory and contributions of African American Airmen to the success of the United States in World War II.

Tuskegee itself was the training location for hundreds of African American Airmen during the war.
