Saratoga National Historical Park Silver Bullion Coin

in 2015 National Park Coins

The Saratoga National Historical Park Silver Bullion Coin will be struck to resemble the Saratoga Quarter. This strike will be issued as the last of five 2015 strikes of the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ Program and which showcase a reverse design emblematic of Saratoga National Historical Park found in the state of New York. At the time of this posting, a release date for the coin was not known.

This entire series of silver bullion coins is struck as large versions of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. Both series feature similar obverse and reverse imagery despite the fact that their other specifications are quite different.

For instance, the quarters only have a diameter of 0.955 inches whereas these bullion coins have a diameter of three inches. Also, the quarters are typically struck from clad for circulation while the bullion coins are each composed of five ounces of .999 silver and are intended for investors.

Shown on the obverse of each will be the same portrait of George Washington originally featured on the 1932 circulating quarter dollar. This portrait was designed by John Flanagan and has been seen on the quarters in one form or another since first appearing in 1932. Surrounding the portrait will be the inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.

The reverse will contain the design emblematic of Saratoga National Historical Park. Around the design will be the inscriptions of SARATOGA, NEW YORK,  2015 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

Saratoga National Historical Park in New York

Congress initially authorized the Saratoga National Historical Park in the state of New York on June 1, 1938. However, the site had been protected years earlier when the state declared it a historic preserve in 1927.

Both sought to commemorate and protect the area where the Battle of Saratoga was fought during the American Revolutionary War. This battle is considered the first significant American victory over British forces.
