San Antonio Missions National Historical Park Silver Bullion Coin

in 2019 National Park Coins

The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park Silver Bullion Coin will be issued by the US Mint with a reverse design emblematic of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park of Texas. This silver bullion coin will mark the fourth of five 2019 releases of the US Mint’s America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program as well as the forty-ninth in the series overall. As of this posting, a release date for the coin was not known.

Each coin in this series is struck from five ounces of .999 fine silver and features a diameter of three inches. The coins contain obverse and reverse imagery originally designed for a series of circulating coins known as the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.

However, unlike those quarters which are typically struck from a clad composition, each of the bullion coins will contain the aforementioned five ounces of silver. Additionally, the bullion coins have the large three inch diameter whereas the quarters are only 0.955 inches in size.

Finally, the distribution method for both series will be different. The quarters will be typically struck for circulation and used in everyday commerce. These bullion coins are struck as a low cost option for investors and will initially be sold through the Mint’s network of authorized purchasers. These purchasers obtain the coins in bulk from the Mint, then resell them to the public and coin and precious metal dealers for a small premium above the current spot price of the five ounces of silver in each one.

Shown on the obverse of the bullion coin will be a portrait of George Washington, just like on the quarters. This portrait was originally designed by John Flanagan. Obverse inscriptions will include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.

The reverse of the coin will contain the design showcasing a portion of the national historical park. Surrounding the design will be the inscriptions of SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS, TEXAS, 2019 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park of Texas

The United States Congress officially established San Antonio Missions National Historical Park on April 1, 1983 in the state of Texas. The park preserves four missions started in the area centuries ago by Spanish men looking to spread the idea of Christianity to the Native Americans of the region.

The four missions preserved by the historical park include Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. All four are typically open for tours.
