Today, May 21, 2012, the United States Mint released the 2012 Mint Uncirculated Coin Set for a price of $27.95, plus shipping and handling. The set is one of the Mint’s core annual offerings, and one of its most popular numismatic products.
The 28 uncirculated coins in the 2012 Mint Set are divided by the mint facility that produced them and within two folders with each containing 14 coins. Those facilities are the Philadelphia Mint and Denver Mint.
These coins have respective "P" or "D" mint marks and include each Mint’s production of the five America the Beautiful Quarters, the four Presidential $1 coins, Native American $1 coin, the Kennedy half dollar, the Roosevelt dime, the Jefferson nickel and the Lincoln cent.
Debuting one week sales should hit close to the 200,000 mark and final sales above the half million level. The U.S. Mint continues to offer the 2011 Mint Uncirculated Coin Set (for $4 more at $31.95) and it has sales today of 523,251.
As the name of the product implies, the coins are of uncirculated quality, meaning they are of a brilliant finish. They may closely resemble those found in change but they will have more detail as each coin is struck on special presses using greater force than circulating coins.
