Precious metal coins dominate May 2013 releases from the United States Mint, according to the bureau’s numismatic product schedule. Of the five products currently listed for release during May, four of them include coins struck from gold or silver.

The 2013 Silver Proof Set and 2013 West Point American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set launch in May

Likely to be the most popular among collectors in terms of the number sold will be the 2013 Silver Proof Set. This annual set contains a total of fourteen coins, seven of which are composed of 90% silver.

Also likely to be of extreme interest to many is the 2013 West Point American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set. As indicated by the name, this set contains two Silver Eagle coins struck at the West Point Mint, including one reverse proof Silver Eagle and one enhanced uncirculated Silver Eagle.

In other releases, look for the US Mint to release both the 2013 West Point Proof American Gold Buffalo coins and the 2013 West Point Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coins.

Offered below are brief descriptions of the pending releases:

5.2.2013 – 2013 United States Mint Silver Proof Set®

Coin Category: Annual Sets | Price: $67.95

The 2013 United States Mint Silver Proof Set continues an annual series from the US Mint that is among the most popular for collectors. Found in the set are proof quality examples struck at the San Francisco facility of the fourteen 2013-dated circulation quality coins issued by the US Mint.

Of those fourteen, seven of the coins are composed of 90% silver. This includes the five 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters as well as the Kennedy Half Dollar and the Roosevelt Dime. The remaining coins (2013 Native American $1 Coin, the four 2013 Presidential $1 Coins, the Jefferson Nickel and the Lincoln Cent) are featured in their standard clad compositions. The total silver weight of the seven precious metal coins comes to 1.34 ounces.

The fourteen coins are presented in three different protective lenses. All three lenses come together in newly designed outer carton.

5.9.2013 – 2013 West Point American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set

The 2013 West Point American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set contains one reverse proof Silver Eagle and one enhanced uncirculated Silver Eagle. Both are struck at the US Mint’s facility in West Point and both will only be issued as part of the two-coin set.

American Silver Eagle coins date back to 1986 when bullion and proof quality versions debuted. Shown on the obverse of all Silver Eagles is Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design as first featured on the 1916 half-dollar with John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle with shield image on the reverse.

Coins of the set are individually encapsulated and appear together in one custom blue lacquer presentation case along with a Certificate of Authenticity. The set will be available for during a four week ordering window from May 9th through June 6th. With no mintage limits or household ordering limits in place, customer demand will determine the final number of sets produced.

5.9.2013 – 2013 Theodore Roosevelt $1 Coin Cover

Coin Category: Presidential Dollars | Price: $19.95

The 2013 Theodore Roosevelt $1 Coin Cover contains two circulation quality Theodore Roosevelt Presidential $1 Coins. One is from the first day of production at the US Mint’s facility in Philadelphia (January 9, 2013) and one is from the first day of production at the US Mint’s Denver facility (February 5, 2013).

The two coins are mounted together on one display card which also contains a portrait of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th US President, along with brief biographical information. Affixed to the display card is a 46-cent Patriotic Star stamp which has been canceled with a postmark of May 9, 2013, New York, NY.

Mintage limit of the release is set at 22,000.

5.23.2013 – 2013 West Point Proof American Gold Buffalo Coin

The 2013 American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coin continues a series of strikes dating back to 2006. The coins are the numismatic versions of bullion Gold Buffalos which were the first 9999 fine 24-karat gold coins ever struck by the United States Mint.

Designs on the coin are taken from the original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel as designed by James Earle Fraser. This includes the portrait of a Native American on the obverse and an American Bison (buffalo) on the reverse.

Each one ounce Gold Buffalo is presented in a hardwood box with a matte finish and a leather-like inset. No mintage or household ordering limits are in place on the release.

5.28.2013 – 2013 West Point Uncirculated American Silver Eagle Coins

Coin Category: American Eagles | Price: TBD

2013 West Point Uncirculated American Silver Eagle Coins are struck by the US Mint as a numismatic version of its popular bullion Silver Eagle. This uncirculated Eagle is produced at the US Mint’s facility in West Point using specially burnished blanks.

As with all Silver Eagle coins, the obverse contains Adolph Weinman’s Liberty with the reverse showcasing John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle. Each Eagle is packaged within a protective clear plastic holder inside an attractive box along with a Certificate of Authenticity.
