Debuting sales figures are in for the five 2012 Proof American Gold Eagle products. Between the Gold Eagles’ release on Thursday, April 19, and through to Monday, April 23, the United States Mint registered total sales of $8,245,152.00.
The tally is a bit underwhelming when contrasted against last week’s reported proof Silver Eagle sales debut of nearly $18 million or, for that matter, when compared against the opening sales of last year’s 2011 Proof American Gold Eagle coins which hit more than $27.7 million or the 2010-dated issues which topped $43.3 million [...]

American Silver Eagles again proved their popularity as opening sales of the 2012-W Proof American Silver Eagle soared. The United States Mint reported five-days sales of nearly $18 million between their Thursday release and Monday.
As is typical for the 99.9% pure silver coin each year, the latest issue generated the best debut total for a U.S. Mint numismatic product this year. Today, April 12, 2012, the United States Mint released the 2012-W Proof American Silver Eagle at 12:00 Noon ET.
Its initial price is $59.95, but as with all coins containing precious metals, the amount is subject to change. During the course of sales last year, the proof’s pricing changed twice due to major swings in the precious metals market.
