Canadian 25-Cent Coin Celebrates Women’s Hockey Gold Medal

The Royal Canadian Mint is inviting Canadians to save the latest circulation coin in its Vancouver 2010 collection — the 25-cent coin celebrating the women’s hockey gold at Salt Lake City in 2002.

The launch of the coin was commemorated today at a special event for local hockey youth with special guests including member of the 2002 women’s Olympic hockey team, Danielle Goyette and members of the Montreal Juniors Hockey Club.

 

"Canada’s women’s hockey team demonstrated the true meaning of spirit and determination when they won the gold medal on February 21, 2002, which triggered celebrations from coast to coast to coast," said Ian E. Bennett, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint. "Employees of the Mint are extremely proud to have produced a coin commemorating this extraordinary moment in Canadian Winter Olympic Games history."

Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Medals

Canadian 25-Cent Coin Celebrates Men’s Hockey

Hockey victory voted by fans as the top Canadian Olympic Winter Games moment of all time

The Royal Canadian Mint is inviting Canadians to save the latest circulation coin in its Vancouver 2010 collection - the 25-cent coin celebrating the men’s hockey gold at Salt Lake City in 2002.

The launch of the coin was commemorated today at a special event for local hockey youth with special guests including NHL hockey star and member of the 2002 men’s Olympic hockey team Michael Peca, Ottawa 67’s head coach Chris Byrne and members of the Ottawa 67’s hockey team.

 

"Many Canadians from coast to coast remember where they were on February 24, 2002 when the final seconds of the game counted down to the exhilaration of Canada’s first Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey in 50 years," said Ian E. Maple Leaf Bullion Coins Celebrate 2010 Olympic Games

Ottawa, Ontario — The Royal Canadian Mint has launched the third and final issue of the world’s first series of bullion coins honouring the spirit of the Olympic Games.

The Mint’s Ottawa facility will produce up to 50,000 gold coins for the 2010 issue and the silver version will be produced on demand.

Royal Canadian Mint to End Sales of 2008-Dated Coins

Several 2008-dated Canadian coins will soon be pulled from the Royal Canadian Mint’s inventory and unavailable, the Mint told customers in an e-mail alert last week.

Royal Canadian Mint Releases Missing Gold Findings

Gold coins and graph reportingOTTAWA, ON — The Royal Canadian Mint today released the findings of a third party review related to the unreconciled difference between the Corporation’s rolling inventory and the physical count of precious metals for the 2008 fiscal year.

The scope of the review, conducted by Deloitte and Touche, was to specifically determine if the unreconciled difference in gold was the result of an accounting or transaction recording error.

 

The report concluded that "the unaccounted for difference in gold does not appear to relate to an accounting error in the reconciliation process, an accounting error in the physical stock count schedules, or an accounting error in the recordkeeping of transactions during the year."
