2019-S Proof American Silver Eagle Release

22

Silver Eagle lovers will have a new coin to add to their collection beginning today at noon EDT with the United States Mint’s release of the 2019-S Proof American Silver Eagle.

CoinNews photo of a 2019-W Proof American Silver Eagle, case and certificate
This CoinNews photo shows a standard 2019-W Proof American Silver Eagle that is encapsulated and held within its blue velvet, satin-lined presentation case. The coin’s folded certificate of authenticity appears at left. This coin was minted at West Point and has a ‘W’ mintmark. The proof Silver Eagle release for today is packaged the same and looks the same, except it is produced at the San Francisco and has an ‘S’ mintmark.

This proof is made at the San Francisco Mint, is struck on a 1-ounce 99.9% fine silver blank, is priced at $55.95, and is available without limits. Proof coins feature frosty design elements against mirror-like backgrounds. They are the Mint’s highest quality coins.

The release marks a continuation of the U.S. Mint’s recent history of annually issuing two different proof American Silver Eagles. The standard West Point Mint-struck version debuted in January and over 300,000 have since sold. For reference, last year’s 2018-S Proof American Silver Eagle ended with sales of 158,785.

Buyers will find that this latest coin is nearly identical to its West Point counterpart. The only visual differences between the two are their mintmarks. A ‘W’ appears on the reverse (tails side) of the 2019-W Silver Eagle while an ‘S’ is found on the 2019-S Silver Eagle.

Designs remain unchanged since the series was introduction in 1986. This includes an obverse (heads side) showcasing Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty. The design first appeared on the 1916-1947 half dollar and features Liberty with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left.

The reverse has former U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti’s rendering of a heraldic eagle with shield. An olive branch can be seen in the Eagle’s right talon with arrows in the left.

Another silver eagle! Getting boring. Only one I bought was the pride of two nations this year

Paul

it might be nice for the mint if they would put a variation on the second American eagle coin to make it more interesting. Reverse proof would be great!

lonnie

i agree.

Chas Barber

Why so many ASEs? It’s silly now, I no longer “NEED” every one they can concoct. No limits mean NO AFTERMARKET. They’ll sell like 221k of these & move on…..

lonnie

the reason why so many_________ they are selling $16 worth of silver for $56. a lot of profit per coin.

Paul

Touche!

Chas Barber

duuhhhhhh………….More like Tu$hy……..pass

Paul

Continue with duplicate coin issued by the mint tomorrow they’re also reissuing an Apollo 11 proof coin with a Philadelphia mint adding a Kennedy thing to make it $20 more which is another ridiculous issue I don’t understand.

David Mediate

I got a instant message 12 noon about the release, went back to the website after 3 o’clock and they are on back order, no household limits. They had kids hands-on involved in rocket ship and currency, HSN host bragging about having 40% of 50,000 released rocket ship. Both gold (50,000) silver proof 400,000 across all products back order today.

Mike Mezack had the 2019-S ASE 4 days before issue with a limited number of ANACS PF70. He claims to know a friend who has a friend. Isn’t he required to state that this is a pre-sale? How does he know he will only have 1298 grade70 prior to release or is the grade in the bag for him.

John Gladstone

The 70 grade for that guy is always in the bag. I bought same exact coin 1 graded by NGC and the other by guess who professional coin grading scammers. I don’t remember right off hand what coin it was but they were both graded ms65. The one graded by NGC blew the other coin, from those other guys away, the scammer coin had scratches all over the face that was on the coin and I thought also that the NGC coin should even have a higher grade. The whole coin grading system is nothing but a big scam

Richard Margolis

It was the same for the W mint 2019 unc.cent in grade70. He sold it for $399 and NGC/PCGS wanted >1200. Something is fishy, just buy his and regrade with NGC for a good profit. Good luck with that

Walter L Schmidt

His show will be taped and replayed at a later date, hence without mentioning presale. Besides, by the time the order is processed and shipped, it won’t be presale. As far as quantity, he will only order 1298 grade 70 coins in that label. Other 70 coins will be placed in another label.
