Precious metals futures were mixed Wednesday with gold and silver higher and platinum and palladium lower. Gold ended at a more than two-week high.
Gold for December delivery gained $7, or 0.6%, to settle at $1,269.90 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The close is the highest since Oct. 3.
"We’ve seen a little reprieve from concerns about higher interest rates," Bloomberg News quoted David Meger, the director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures in Chicago. "We’re seeing a little bit of a rebound as the dollar now sells off."
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,261.10 to a high of $1,274.40. They rose 0.5% in the previous session and edged up less than 0.1% on Monday.
Higher for a third day in a row after falling for four straight, silver for December added 2.5 cents, or 0.1%, to $17.663 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $17.57 and $17.79. They are 1.3% higher so far this week.
In PGM futures on Wednesday:

January platinum shed $3, or 0.3%, to $943.50 an ounce, ranging from $940.10 and $952.70.
- Palladium for December delivery lost $3.90, or 0.6%, to $635.50 an ounce, trading between $634.70 and $645.50.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London bullion prices from Tuesday PM to Wednesday PM:
- Gold added $10.85, or 0.9%, to $1,269.05 an ounce.
- Silver rose 4 cents, or 0.2%, to $17.69 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
