Gold futures ended lower for a second day in a row Wednesday, while silver futures registered a fourth straight decline.
Gold for December delivery shed $6.70, or 0.5%, to settle at $1,323.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement is the lowest since Sept. 20.
"Gold prices ended the U.S. day session weaker Wednesday, on mostly technical selling amid a lack of fresh, markets-moving fundamental news on this day," Jim Wyckoff, a senior analyst at Kitco Metals Inc., said in a report.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,321.10 to a high of $1,331.10. On Tuesday, they fell 1%.
Elsewhere, silver for December delivery declined 4.4 cents, or 0.2%, to settle at $19.121 an ounce. The close is the lowest since Sept. 16. Silver futures traded from $18.97 to $19.27. They sank 2.2% in the previous session.
In PGM futures on Wednesday:
January platinum lost $2.30, or 0.2%, to $1,027 an ounce, ranging from $1,016.40 to $1,034.20.
- Palladium for December delivery advanced $13.35, or 1.9%, to $714.40 an ounce, trading between $699.50 and $717.50.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London bullion prices from Tuesday PM to Wednesday PM:
- Gold slipped $4.50, or 0.3%, to $1,322.50 an ounce.
- Silver fell 30 cents, or 1.5%, to $19.12 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
US Mint Bullion Coin Sales in 2016
U.S. Mint bullion products logged gains of 1,500 ounces in American Gold Eagles and 500 ounces in American Gold Buffalos.
