Two silver bullion bars and gold nuggets

Most precious metals futures advanced on Tuesday. Palladium was the exception, falling 1.6%.

Gold and silver futures bounced higher on improved safe-haven demand and following two straight session losses.

Gold for June delivery tacked on $10.30, or 0.8%, to settle at $1,229.60 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

"Investors are taking off riskier assets in the S&P 500 and other equities, and looking to come back into safety like gold," Bloomberg News quoted Phil Streible, a senior market strategist at RJO Futures in Chicago. "Gold looks like a nice place to park some money."

Gold prices ranged from a low $1,216 to a high of $1,238.80. In the previous session, they dipped 0.3%.

Silver for May delivery added 17.2 cents, or 1.2%, to end at $15.116 an ounce. Silver prices traded between $14.92 and $15.22. On Monday, they declined 0.7% and settled at a more than one-month low.
