Blue Ridge Parkway 5 Oz Bullion Coin Temporarily Sells Out

Sales of the United States Mint’s third 2015-dated America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin opened on Monday and then just as quickly ended. Featuring a reverse design emblematic of Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, United States Mint distributors ordered all available 35,000 coins. More are on the way.

Blue Ridge Parkway Quarter
Designed by Frank Morris and sculpted by Joseph Menna, the Blue Ridge Parkway quarter depicts a winding road that hugs the side of a mountain as it leads up to a tunnel. The North Carolina state flower is shown in the foreground. The same design is found on the five ounce silver bullion coin.

The U.S. Mint offers its five-ounce coins through a network of “authorized purchasers” at a price of $9.75 per coin, plus spot. The coins make their way to coin and precious metals dealers who resell them for around $21-$25 per coin, plus spot, with discounts offered at higher quantities.

"This is to inform you that we have temporarily sold out of the America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins — Blue Ridge Parkway," the U.S. Mint said Monday in a memo sent to its buyers, adding that they will "resume sales once additional coins can be made."

These bullion coins are produced at the U.S. Mint facility in Philadelphia to a diameter of 3.00 inches and a silver purity of 99.9%.

Demand for this year’s issues have been high. The earlier two, the 2015 Homestead National Monument of America Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin for Nebraska and the 2015 Kisatchie National Forest Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin for Louisiana, sold out with final sales of 35,000 and 42,000. The latter is the highest total since the Chickasaw piece from 2011.

On Monday, June 29, the United States Mint will begin selling rolls and bags of circulating-quality Blue Ridge Parkway quarters at prices ranging from $18.95 to $46.95. The collector five-ounce silver version with the ‘P’ mint mark and $149.95 price has a scheduled release in the month of July. These quarters and coin will be available to order straight from www.usmint.gov.
