Perth Mint bullion sales slowed in April compared to March

Sales of Australian bullion products eased in April compared to the previous month but surged over the levels logged a year earlier, figures from the Perth Mint show.

The month-over-month pull-back happened following a strong March in which the Mint’s gold and silver products notched multi-month sales highs.

Perth Mint gold coins and gold bars climbed 26,545 ounces last month, falling 22.5% from the 34,260 ounces sold in March yet jumping 13.5% from the 23,461 ounces moved in April 2014. Gold sales in the January to April period tally to 115,960 ounces, off a sharp 29.9% from last year’s starting four-month total of 165,459 ounces.

Perth Mint sales of silver coins at 472,273 ounces in April tumbled 26% from the prior month’s total of 638,557 ounces but they marked a 30.5% increase from 361,988 ounces sold in April of last year. As for the year-to-date, the Mint’s silver sales combine to 2,088,897 ounces for a more modest decline of 5.6% from the same four-month period in 2014 when 2,211,629 ounces moved.
