First Spouse Designs Selected for 2015 Gold Coins

The U.S. Mint unveiled designs for the one-half ounce 24-karat 2015 First Spouse Gold Coins commemorating Bess Truman, Mamie Eisenhower, Jacqueline Kennedy and Lady Bird Johnson.

Four obverse and four reverse designs prevailed among a combined fifty-two candidates for spouses of the 33rd to 36th Presidents of the United States. These designs were selected under the authority of the Secretary of the Treasury after a series of reviews and recommendations.

The reverse features a locomotive wheel moving along railroad tracks, representing Mrs. Truman’s support for her husband on his 1948 whistle stop campaign trip for re-election as president.

The reverse features the saucer magnolia Mrs. Kennedy chose to be planted in the White House garden and near the eternal flame at her husband’s grave at Arlington National Cemetery. The petals stretch across the globe, its tips connecting the points of some of her most notable diplomatic visits.

Interesting that the mintage limit on the Jackie Kennedy coin is 30,000 while the others are 10,000. They’ll sell out, of course.

I think now in my opinion since the U S Mint is about 95% sold out on the JFK gold coin, Is to have the remainder sold out. I think the JFK coin got so beat up for no reason. BUY the coin if you LOVE the coin. PERIOD. Like the old days. It may actually even go up in price when sold out. That baby will look great with the new Jackie O coin coming out in June or so of this year…

Are any of the first spouses alive? Isn’t Nancy Regan alive? Does she get a gold coin? Thought there was a law that said that living persons cannot be put on coins. That would mean that there would be a presidential coin with no spouse…
