The Perth Mint of Australia just released two one-ounce coins in collector proof quality that feature Captain Kirk and the U.S.S. Enterprise, the famed commander and interstellar ship from Star Trek: The Original Series.
Sold individually and in a set are two 99.9% pure silver Star Trek coins. One bears an image of William Shatner as Captain James Tiberius Kirk as he appeared in Star Trek and the other offers a rendition of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701.
CoinNews talked about these coins earlier in the month and it seems they could be poised for a sellout based on the interest shown — the article had thousands of views and more than 2,000 Facebook shares.
Sales are limited to only 5,000 of the U.S.S. Enterprise and Captain Kirk coins. The two-coin set is restricted to just 1,500.
Officially licensed and specially packaged, each silver coin is available for AUS $104.55, or US $81.37. The two-coin set is AUS $209.09, or US $162.74.

Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek: The Original Series debuted in 1966 and ran for three seasons until 1969. A number of TV spin-offs and motion pictures have appeared since that time.

I liked star trek, But don’t really see the biggie on these coins. Most folks (coin collectors) don’t like the colored coins.

Sorry but the coins are not very imaginitave. Pretty much just slapped a color photo of Kirk or whatever character onto the coin.
Un-boldly going where many colorized coins have already gone.
