United States Mint Coin Discovery Sets launched today at noon ET. These three-coin sets are like no other from the U.S. Mint, a brand new product for 2014.
Promoted as "perfect for the beginner coin collector," sets include three 2014 Kennedy half-dollars in three different collector finishes from three different U.S. Mint production facilities — a proof 50c from San Francisco with the "S" mint mark, an uncirculated 50c from Philadelphia with the "P" mint mark, and a circulating-quality 50c from Denver with the "D" mint mark.
Then there are its coin collecting supplies consisting of a magnifying glass, cotton gloves and coin tubes for storing quarters. An included educational booklet explains how coins are made. The coins, collecting supplies and booklet are placed inside a box that is also designed to store any of the Mint’s proof sets.
