Everglades National Park Quarters in US Mint bag and roll products

Everglades National Park Quarters hit the sales charts this week

Last week the United States Mint released seven products featuring quarters and a silver coin with a design emblematic of Everglades National Park in Florida. All of them were among the Mint’s top weekly sellers but their starting performances were down compared to past series starts in 2014.

Six products with Everglades quarters launched on Monday, Nov. 3. Available options include bags and rolls of circulating-quality coins struck in Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco with mint marks of ‘P’, ‘D’ and ‘S’. The number of Everglades quarters sold in the first couple of days reached 1,918,160. The opening is the weakest this year as compared to the other 2014 America the Beautiful Quarters which logged starts of:

  • 2,079,860 for Great Sand Dunes quarters,
  • 2,002,300 for Arches quarters,
  • 2,211,600 for Shenandoah quarters, and
  • 2,186,480 for Great Smoky Mountain quarters

The Great Sand Dunes National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins launched on Thursday, Nov. 6. Its sales start of 16,243 was also the weakest this year.

Really like this format with current and past week’s sales data as well as % gain, leaving 2013 #’s in there for reference is a nice touch too! Thanks!!!

I have a question about the 2014 Kennedy half dollar sales figures. With 30,111 roll sets sold, and 12,150 bags of 200 sold, that brings the total sales figures to about 4.8 million halves. But the production figures show only 4.6 halves being produced this year (2.1 Denver plus 2.5 philly). How can they sales more than they make?

In the third paragraph on this article you wrote, “The Great Sand Dunes National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins launched on Thursday, Nov. 6. Its sales start of 16,243 was also the weakest this year.”

Surely you meant, “The Everglades National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins launched on Thursday, Nov. 6. Its sales start of 16,243 was also the weakest this year.”

The Great Sand Dunes National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin had debut sales of 20,047 compared to the weak start of 16,243 for the Everglades National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.

I guess the 100% markup and the loss of the subscription discount showed us a more realistic base level of collectors in this series. Which I’m impressed. I can think of about 16,143 people who will be quite upset if they lower the pricing for any of the 2014 Five Ounce Uncirculated Coins now. The lower silver pricing should occurred before this launch or the US Mint should of gave the 10% subscription discount for the final quarter this year for their loyal subscription customers. At the very lease for fairness sake they should wait 30 days from the release and possibly offer those who paid these high markups a promo code for their next order like free or reduced shipping or a discount code – anything but a bag! More likely the number is around 10,000 as the majority of buyers like myself ordered multiples. I ordered 3 so far but will order 2 more as I was awaiting the sales numbers. If I’m not mistaken and someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but the Everglades National Park Five Ounce Silver is the highest cost percentage over melt value coin this far.

Sorry for the previous question, math error on my part. I was thinking of quarter rolls with 40, half rolls only have 20, so the total is only 3.6 million.

Mark – Regarding the possibility of a price decrease on the Pucks, I’ve done some research going back and looking the price of the pucks over spot & I’m leaning to the thought that the mint balances the Puck price to around $11-$12/ounce over spot. Currently, it’s $15.3 per ounce over spot at a sales price of $154.95 – therefore current pricing for the pucks is out of parameters (or an imbalance exists (IMO) if using historical pricing over the past 14-18 months, IMO. So I think you’re correct in thinking that it’s the highest ratio to-date for a puck.

With the strong sales of the other from the series this year, I suspect ‘Glades will be around for quite some time as now weekly sales usually drops to 250-400/week, which would take us into 2015 to get to a sales of 20k.

The high margin on the 5-oz Everglades and the removal of discounts for the loyal subscription customers, without even waiting until 2015, leads me to believe that it’s another ploy by the Liberals.
