Sales of the 2013 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set, or 2013 Mint Set, ended this week with its product page now tagged with "sold out."

U.S. Mint reporting last had its sales at 368,553, which is the lowest total since the 1961 Mint Set ended with sales of 223,704. This should lift the set’s value in the secondary market. That happened with the 2012 Mint Set when it ended at 392,224, the weakest level since 1962. Sets from 2012 are now selling for around $70, or more than double their original issue price.

Coin News Update: The 2013 Mint Set is listed as available once again.

2013 Mint Set buying activity fell with collectors more interested in newer products. Weekly gains since late June have been 176; 129; 149; 1,167; 931; 424; 374; and 249. The bump in the middle happened around the time the set was listed as sold out but then returned to availability.

The following table offers ending sales for annually issued sets since 2007.

  • The 7th annual issues of Presidential $1 Coins (4 each)
  • The 4th annual issues of America the Beautiful Quarters (5 each)

They should have “sold out” at the end of last year. Oh well, better now than later.

Jack

Now they are available to buy. The mint posted them as sold out a few weeks back when the proof set sold out and then retracted. Yesterday they were on the sold out list. Not sure what’s up with the mint’s website but the people who order now may have line cancelations. I hope they are finally sold out. Super low mintage.
Happy collecting!

Jack

Also waiting for the $1 Annual set to be a sell out. This should have the lowest minted uncirculated W Silver Eagle coin if the mintage stays under 50.8K

Head fake! 2013 mint sets still on sale today.

The 2013 annual dollar sets are not available till September 5th. Does that mean that the mint is assembling more sets right now?

unprecedented..If they are going to close and then reopen sales again, I would like to order 2012 silver proof sets and a bunch of other thingd…

Checked 2012 eBay sets and the average “Sold” price is $42.

I suspect that there will be another “bump” at the end of 2013 sales as well as the last time this set was listed as “sold out”.

A keyboard fat finger? Perhaps once, but twice?

Jack

Perhaps the janitor may have found some sets in a utility closet that they didn’t realize they had.

The US Mint again screws up by marking the 2013 mint set as sold out, only to make them available again. The Mint website showed them as being sold out for 2 days, but today they are available again. I bought a bunch of sets after seeing they were sold out, and will probably end up losing money on every one of them. I called the Mint to complain and they had no go reason for the error, but then they are the government and incompetence is the norm. I won’t be purchasing from the US Mint ever again. Thanks… Read more »

The 2009 Uncirculated United States Mint Coin Set with the Linconoln cent are specially minted using the same metallic composition as the inaugural 1909 Lincoln Penny, which is 95% copper, 3% zinc and 2% tin. The 2009 Mint Set is the only way to aquire them. Just 774,844 minted. Look at the price of todays 1909 S Lincoln Cent and how many they made or the 1909 S vdb for that matter.
