The Perth Mint of Australia offers several new releases in June that are sure to pique the interest of collectors.
Among the new products is the second strike of the Perth Mint’s Gods of Olympus series with an extremely limited mintage and a unique antique finish. Also joining the line-up are four numismatic-grade koala precious metal issues including three proof quality gold coins and a five ounce high relief silver coin.
Transcending the boundaries between coins and blockbuster movies, the Perth Mint unveils the one ounce 2014 Transformers 4 Silver Proof Lenticular Coins. These rectangular silver coins depict three popular characters from the Transformers® franchise in new lenticular designs that change appearance as the coin is shifted.

2014 Australian Koala Proof Gold Coins
Three new koala coins are presented in gold with the release of the 2014 Australian Koala Proof Gold Coins. Each features the same image of a single koala on its reverse along with a spray of eucalyptus leaves.
Sizing of the new issues include a 2 oz coin, a 1 oz coin and a 1/10 oz coin. The larger two sizes are featured in high relief. Collectors from the United States are directed to order these two coins from Govmint.com. Each of the three coins are from 99.99% pure gold with initial pricing listed as AUS $4,450 for the two ounce coin, AUS $2,450.00 for the one-ounce issue and AUS $271.82, or US $251.26, for the tenth-ounce release.
2014 Australian Koala 5 oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin
Also in June, the Perth Mint debuts the 2014 Australian Koala 5 oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin. The reverse features the same image of a single koala and eucalyptus leaves as found on other 2014 koala coin issues, but is offered in high relief for enhanced detail.
Each is struck from five ounces of 99.9% pure silver and features a diameter of 50.60 mm. Maximum mintage for the coin is 5,000 with pricing shown of AUS $440.91. Again, collectors from the U.S. are asked to order this coin from Govmint.com.
2014 The Land Down Under Great Barrier Reef Coins
The Perth Mint’s second issues in the 2014 Land Down Under series finds the Great Barrier Reef 1 oz Silver Proof Coins and 1/4 oz Gold Proof Coins.
Shown on the silver proof coin is a colored aerial view of the Great Barrier Reef with a seaplane flying overhead. The gold coin offers the likeness of a green sea turtle.
Maximum mintage for the silver coin is 5,000 with 1,000 of the gold coins available. Each ships in a unique Australian map-shaped presentation case. Pricing for the silver coin is AUS $90, or US $83.19, while the gold coin is AUS $631.82, or US $584.02.
2014 Mother’s Love – Giraffe Silver Proof Coin
Appearing as the third issue in the Perth’s Mother’s Love series is the 2014 Giraffe 1/2 oz Silver Proof Coin. The reverse of the coin shows the bond between a mother giraffe and her calf in a colored image.
Previous program issues depicted the Lioness and the Asian Elephant with later releases to show a Brown Bear and Orangutan. Mintage for the giraffe coin is listed as 4,500 with pricing of AUS $57.73, or US $53.36.
2014 Kangaroo Australia Vintage Travel Poster Silver Coin
A new series depicting vintage Australian travel posters debuts with the 2014 Kangaroo 1 oz Silver Proof Rectangle Coin. Offered on the reverse of the coin is a colored recreation of a vintage Australian travel poster from the 1950’s which shows a kangaroo in the outback.
The rectangular coin is struck from one ounce of 99.9% pure silver with a mintage listed of 5,000. The Perth Mint indicates pricing of AUS $90, or US $83.19.
2014 Young Collectors Superpowers Cybernetics $1 Coin
The third of six issues created for young collectors and featuring the concept of Superpowers debuts with the 2014 Cybernetics $1 Coin. Each aluminum bronze release offers a colored reverse of the concept of cybernetics.
Coins featuring Supersenses and Invisibility preceded this release with issues associated with Flight, Weather Control and Super Strength yet to come. Each coin comes housed in a presentation card and is offered for AUS $13.59, or US $12.56.
2014 Gods of Olympus – Poseidon 2 oz Silver Coin
As discussed earlier in this coin news article, the 2014 Gods of Olympus – Poseidon 2 oz Silver High Relief Coin appears as the second issue in the Perth Mint’s Gods of Olympus series. The first issue of the program depicted a likeness of Zeus and realized intense interest from collectors that led quick sell-out.
This coin, offering a design of Poseidon, has the same limited mintage of 1,500 and an antique finish. The two ounce, 99.9% pure silver high relief coin is listed to sell for AUS $162.73, or US $150.61. Each comes housed in a wooden display case with added detail on the lid.
2014 Transformers 4 Silver Proof Lenticular Coins
Also discussed earlier in this coin news article, Transformers® have proven popular with movie-goers and coin collectors, leading the Perth Mint to continue its affiliation with the franchise and release the 2014 Transformers 4 Silver Proof Lenticular Coins. Three rectangular 99.9% pure silver issues appear as part of the series with reverse designs depicting the characters of Optimus Prime, Bumblee and Lockdown.
The characters are shown with lenticular features so the design changes as the coins shift in the light. Maximum mintage for each coin is 5,000 with pricing listed as AUS $104.55, or US $96.77. A three-coin set is also available for AUS $286.36, or US $266.56.
