US Mint Sales: Sets, Eagles and Baseball Coins Lead

2014-W $50 Uncirculated American Gold Eagles notched stronger opening sales than a year ago

Annual sets, Baseball coins and American Eagles filled the top ten United States Mint weekly sales slots.

New on the charts is the 2014-W Uncirculated American Gold Eagle. As we talked about earlier in the week, the Gold Eagle scored debut sales of 1,844 for a 27.4% increase over the 1,448 start of last year’s coin. The new American Eagle was the Mint’s 10th most popular product.

This week the U.S. Mint provided sales updates to 235 numismatic products. Of those with a sales history of at least two weeks, 27 outperformed their prior weekly sales compared to 152 previously. Thirteen products increased by more than 1,000 units versus 17 in the prior report.

Baseball Coins

2014 50c National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins advanced 9,311 compared to the previous week’s gain of 17,377, which was supported by the Mint’s 2014 Spring Catalog hitting the street and news of Hall of Famer pitcher Goose Gossage striking one of the coins at the U.S. Mint in Denver.

Orders of the clad Baseball coins total 270,582 for 36.1% of the maximum 750,000. Sales are at 172,530 for the proof and 98,052 for the uncirculated for percentage splits of 63.8% and 36.2%.

Update on Newer Products and Sold Out Products

Sales of the 2014-P Great Smoky Mountains Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin ended one week ago. As expected, its total was adjusted under its stated 25,000 mintage. Sales dropped 679 for a new tally of 24,742.

Released on May 15, the 2014-P Shenandoah Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin added another 1,177 during its first full week of availability for a total of 21,297. This five ouncer has a higher 30,000 mintage.

Finally, the 2014 Mint Set in its first full week of sales climbed 17,012 to 174,056. The popular annual set was released on May 13.

Under the uncirculated.sets, I think 2013 was inadvertently inserted for 2014. Looks like the mint is pushing the 2013 Proof sets to finish them up since they’re a “featured item” …..hopefully! Looking for a low mintage on these sets even though the surpassed the 2012’s. Happy collecting! Thanks so much for this WEB SIGHT Mike! I visit it several times daily!!!!!!!
