A small sampling of the candidate designs for the Fallen Heroes of 9/11 Congressional Gold Medals Designs. Images of all the proposed designs are below.

Medals are authorized by the Fallen Heroes of 9/11 Act, Public Law No: 112-76, for each site impacted by the terrorist attacks of 2001.

As part of the process leading to their striking by the United States Mint, all the proposed designs are getting reviewed today by the Commission of Fine Arts and they will get inspected by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee on May 19, 2014.

In total, the U.S. Mint unveiled 84 different design candidates for obverse and reverse sides of three Congressional Gold Medals that will be given to:

Following the review and discussion stages, the Secretary of the Treasury will select the final 6 designs — one for each side of the three medals. In addition to the Congressional Gold Medals, the U.S. Mint will strike bronze duplicates that will be available for public purchase.

Offered below are images of the different design candidates for the Fallen Heroes of 9/11 Congressional Gold Medals. They are separated by the theme each conveys. (Jump to New York designs, Flight 93 designs, or Pentagon designs.)

We already have a 9/11 commemorative coin that was done very well. The fallen heroes are remembered in our hearts and unfortunately I don’t think any of these are doing justice. There are (some) good designs here , but are off topic. I’m not impressed at all, “There’s much a nothing about do.”

These are designs for GOLD medals to be given to the respective sites. The Mint is making bronze versions for the public and I think would make a great addition to any collection, providing they select some of the killer designs I see here i.e. eagles and lady liberty. Love to see a silver version, 1 for each site. The one that was done seems to only honor the twin towers and I think one for each site in silver would be great and go to further show respect for all the sacrifices that were made that day!

There are far too many great designs here for me to make my best selection. The artists are to be collectively congratulated on such a fine body of work on such a solemn theme. All of the designs are very inspired creations!

What, no designs showing the free fall of building seven? Of the thermite detection? Or metal being quickly sold and shipped to India before it could be independently tested? No pictures of the plane falling short and the Naval accounting offices being blown outwards? Maybe one for all the asbestos dust that blanketed NY with no warnings? Maybe the one with the quick sell and new insurance policy procured? No, let’s just play on the emotions and sacrifice…

Kim w.

Too bad there’s no “Most Gullible Rube” medal for Shawn and all his ilk.

Shawn

What’s the matter Kim, too stupid to do any real research? 9/11truth.org Give it a spin…
