All three bear reverse designs emblematic of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on their ground-breaking trip to North America. Mintages of the three releases are limited with 500 of the gold coin issued, 6,000 of the high relief silver coin available and 5,000 of the antique silver coin.

"History was made when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited Canada in 1939," describes the Royal Canadian Mint. "It was the first time a reigning monarch had ever traveled to North America, and for a young nation eager to flex its muscles of independence, the royal tour provided the perfect opportunity."

The King and Queen arrived in Quebec on May 17, 1939. During the 29-day excursion across Canada from east to west and back again, they travailed almost 14,000 kilometers by rail. This was in addition to the many side trips taken in two convertible McLaughlin-Buicks that were specially fitted for the train to offer the Royals opportunities to venture into nearby cities and towns.

First Royal Visit to Canada Coin Designs and Specifications

The three 75th Anniversary of the First Royal Visit coins celebrate the momentous occasion with reverse designs emblematic of the trip. Shown on the reverse of the ultra-high relief gold and ultra-high relief silver coins are effigies of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
