Its sales started today, Feb. 11, 2014, at noon ET. For $9.95, the Three-Coin Set contains three quarters of different origins, all depicting an image emblematic of the most visited national park in the U.S., located in Tennessee. Included are:

  • an uncirculated Great Smoky Mountains quarter from the Denver Mint,
  • an uncirculated Great Smoky Mountains quarter from the Philadelphia Mint, and
  • a proof Great Smoky Mountains quarter from the San Francisco Mint.

To indicate the city of origin on each coin is a one-letter mint mark on the obverse (heads) side. They are, ‘D’ for the U.S. Mint facility in Denver, CO; ‘P’ for the U.S. Mint facility in Philadelphia, PA; and ‘S’ for the U.S. Mint facility in San Francisco, CA.

A durable plastic card holds the three coins. It features a picturesque image of the park on its front and a brief description of the site and coin on its back along with a U.S. Mint Certificate of Authenticity.

Designs of Great Smoky Mountains Quarters

Just as previous quarters in the America the Beautiful Quarter series, the obverse side of the Great Smoky Mountains quarter shows a portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan. Unique to the series, the image was digitally restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original 1932 model. Inscriptions read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "QUARTER DOLLAR."
