US Mint Sales: Numismatic Products Weaker to Steady

The two top-sellers for the U.S. Mint last week were the 2013-W Proof American Silver Eagle and 2013 Proof Set

Sales last week for numismatic products from the United States Mint were somewhat mixed. On the one hand, there was a good share of coins showing mild weakness. On the other, some products did log better sales, though there certainly weren’t any screamers.

Among gainers were numismatic American Silver Eagles. Uncirculated Silver Eagles added 4,945 compared to 2,236 previously and proof Silver Eagles advanced 15,755 versus their prior 15,334. Both made it on the Mint’s top-selling list.

  3. 2013 Uncirculated Silver Eagles (+4,945 to 148,419)
  4. 2013 Silver Proof Set (+4,882 to 322,541)
  5. 2013 Mint Set (+4,430 to 259,474)
  6. 2013 Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set (+1,171 to 223,010)
  7. 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set (+875 to 103,620)
  8. 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set (+655 to 115,049)
  9. 2013 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set (+525 to 55,851)
  10. 2013 Kennedy Two-Roll Set (+487 to 16,481)

This week’s sales report included updates to 202 numismatic products. Fifty-four of them outperformed their prior weekly sales compared to 41 previously. Six products registered unit sales of more than 1,000 versus the 7 noted in the last report.

With the Mint’s fall marketing catalog now under dust in most customer’s homes and just a single set of products in October to bump the numbers, the Woodrow Wilson Presidential $1 Coins launch next Thursday, I suspect US Mint sales reports may show the same patterns until November when several products launch and holiday shopping picks up. Other than these events, the only action to change things up would be huge swings in precious metals.

US Mint Sales: Silver Bullion Coins and Gold Bullion Coins

Sales over the last seven days retreated a bit for bullion gold and silver coins. The following grid offers weekly and monthly figures for all U.S. Mint bullion products. The weekly period covers sales from Oct. 3, to Oct. 9, 2013.
