Holiday coin shopping slowed last week, based on the newest U.S. Mint sales figures. That makes sense with many collectors having wrapped up buying for 2012 and in standby mode for next year’s coins.
There are newly issued U.S. Mint products, the 2012 Denali Quarters Three-Coin Set and 2012 Caroline Harrison First Spouse Gold Coins, but their debuting sales were lower than previous issues.
Caroline Harrison First Spouse Gold Coins made their entrance on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Combined sales as of Monday, December 10, 2012 reached 2,322. Splits were 1,380 for the proof coin and 942 for the uncirculated coin.
As the third 2012-dated spousal coins, their starting sales are the slowest. In contrast, the immediate earlier release of Frances Cleveland gold coins opened at 2,395 and the first 2012-dated issues honoring Alice Paul and the Suffrage Movement began at 3,202. 2012 Denali National Park Quarters Three-Coin Set launched Tuesday, December 4, 2012. As discussed in this coin news article published earlier today, sales debuted at 10,509 for the second slowest start since the series began in 2010. The sets did make it on the U.S. Mint’s best-selling list:

Seventy-four numismatic products logged improved week-over-week sales compared to the 105 in the last U.S. Mint sales report. One of those was the commemorative Star-Spangled Banner Bicentennial Silver Dollar Set, which is # 7 above. It logged sharply higher weekly sales of 4,787 compared to the previous gain of 1,097.
All of the 2012 commemorative coins and related products are on the Mint’s Last Chance Sales page. They will no longer be available after 5 p.m. ET on Monday, December 17, 2012.
Finally, the U.S. Mint late last week provided unaudited final sales for the 2012-S American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Proof Set. Read this coin news article for details about its sales of 224,984, which is more than a 10% decline from the previous total.

Interesting to see how the DOF set took all year to do it, but it’s almost made it to the stated limit of 50k units. Remember when sales figures were sluggish and actually regressing earlier in the year and everyone thought it was going to be a dog?
For the 5 oz collector coins, The total sales has the previous weeks sales in them. Gettysburg is sold out. Might have forgotten to update that column
Homer, the five ounce collector sales are the latest. I should have noted in the article that the sales report from the U.S. Mint had Gettysburg’s sales up 53 to 24,625. The increase is likely from orders received during the last few days before it went off sale.

If you compare the notes column with the latest sales column of the 5 oz ATB Collectors Issue, the notes list the old sales in them rather than the latest sales in them. Just making a comment on the notes column.
