2011-W Uncirculated Julia Grant First Spouse Gold Coin

This 2011-W Uncirculated Julia Grant First Spouse Gold Coin was taken off sale with last reported sales of 2,952

Depicting a portrait of Julia Grant, the 24-karat gold uncirculated coin honoring the First Lady was taken off sale today, August 28, 2012, by the United States Mint.

Collectors will find the 2011-W Uncirculated Julia Grant First Spouse Gold Coin on the "No Longer Available" section of the U.S. Mint website with the words "sold out" stamped beside its name. Its latest sales total as of Monday was 2,952, the highest of last year’s uncirculated coins but lower than any of the proofs.

It marks the fifth spousal coin to go off sale since June and it is the third one that has been pulled this month. No uncirculated coins in the series remain for sale.

Last listed at a price of $966.00, the one-half ounce 2011-W Uncirculated Julia Grant First Spouse Gold Coin and its companion proof were released on June 23, 2011. At that time, the uncirculated coin sold for $916.00 while the proof was listed at $929.00. The proof version disappeared from U.S. Mint store shelves in late March with a final reported sales total of 3,969.

Just two First Spouse Gold Coins remain for sale — the proof honoring Lucretia Garfield and the proof depicting Lucy Hayes. Each is 2011-dated. Production issues have slowed the release of the 2012-dated First Lady coins. Normally, three of the four would already have been issued by this time of year.

The following provides a breakdown of sales for last year’s issues as of Monday, August 27, 2012. The third column offers the most recent weekly increases in sales.

Hi George,
A buyer would be lucky aquire one of these but you still have the one with the lowest mintage. The Lucy Hayes Unc. is now the lowest mintage and the 2011 Lucretia Garfield First Spouse Uncirculated is the 2nd lowest mintage in the Spouse Series.

With a First Strike the Lucy Hayes Unc should more than triple your investment.

There are now only two proof 24kt Spouse coins available from the mint and the prices have increased to $1,004. If you did not pick one up before the price increase you missed the boat…

Gold is on the move and is now at $1,668 a Troy Ounce as I write this.
