New sales figures as of Monday, July 30, 2012 show that U.S. Mint Authorized Purchasers ordered 9,900 of the newly released Acadia bullion coin, marking a substantial increase over debut sales of 3,200 reported for the previous release, the 2012 Chaco Culture National Historical Park 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coin.

Coins honoring Acadia National Park are the third of the year and the thirteenth overall in the series of America the Beautiful coins that honor national parks and other national sites in the United States and its territories. Aside from their brilliant finish and lack of a mint mark, they are identical to the collector America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins. (See 2012 release dates for this year’s uncirculated coins.)

Acadia National Park Coin Design

These bigger coins replicate the designs of the companion America the Beautiful Quarters. The Acadia National Park quarter was released into circulation back on June 11, 2012.

Barbara Fox’s reverse design depicts a view of the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and Acadia’s rough coastline. Inscriptions include ACADIA, MAINE, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The obverse is the same as new quarters, down to the "QUARTER DOLLAR" inscription.

The edges include the unique lettering of ".999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE," highlighting the coin’s purity and weight.

Where to Purchase

The United States Mint offers its bullion products only through its network of Authorized Purchasers — it does not sell them directly to the public as it does with its collector products. Buyers should soon find the Acadia National Park bullion coin available through U.S. Mint distributors, precious metals providers and coin dealers.

Based on the silver price of $28.06 an ounce, one seller — APMEX® — is offering the Acadia National Park 5 Oz Silver Bullion Coin individually for $162.75, or about $4.50 per ounce over spot. The company (http://www.apmex.com) also offers volume pricing that can bring the cost down to $2.79 per ounce over spot.
