2012 America the Beautiful Quarters and Silver Coins DesignsThe United States Mint recently unveiled the selected five reverse designs for the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters. The same designs will also be used on the investment-grade 2012 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins and numismatic 2012 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins.

These five final designs were chosen from a total of twenty-four design candidates released by the United States Mint in October 2010. Four to five candidates were offered for each of the 2012 quarters as created by artists for possible selection. For the year, the five sites honored in the three different America the Beautiful Coin Programs are [...]

Fine Gold BarsPrecious metals and many other markets were pounded Thursday as expectations were dashed for a dramatic solution from European leaders to contain the region’s debt crisis. Gold fell 1.8 percent. Even palladium, which had risen for eight straight sessions over supply concerns, was pressured 1.5 percent lower.

Gold prices declined $31.40 to $1,713.40 an ounce in the February futures contract on the Comex in New York. It was the biggest one-day loss for gold since November 21. Prices traded between [...]

Mark Twain Image on CoinLast week, Senator Richard Blumenthal [D-CT] of Connecticut introduced legislation that calls for gold and silver commemorative coins during calendar year 2016 to celebrate the life and legacy of Mark Twain.

Mark Twain, the pen name used by Samuel Clemens, wrote many books that are still in print after more than a century since his death in 1910. Two of his most noted novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and its sequel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Twain became one of the best known authors in America and abroad, with his books being translated into 75 languages [...]

Precious Metals CommentaryMetals dealings opened with the same level of nervous indecision that they have exhibited all week. Despite market survey projections that showed most polled participants being quite bullish on gold for the week, the yellow metal has managed to do little more than to bump up against the $1,750 mark a few times and then retreat in a hurry. Today’s opening had gold rising 90 cents to the $1,744 mark and silver advancing 28 cents to $32.79 per ounce.

After another feeble attempt at overcoming the seemingly impenetrable $1,750-$1,750 resistance zone gold prices went into somewhat of a [...]

Fine Gold BarsGold prices advanced Wednesday after two straight days of losses that were driven by S&P’s review and possible credit downgrades of euro zone members. Trading was thin, however, as investors were said to be on the sidelines waiting for Friday’s meeting of European leaders and their actions to address the region’s debt-woes.

Gold prices gained $13.00, or 0.8 percent, to $1,744.80 an ounce in the February futures contract on the Comex in New York. Gold ranged from $1,723.60 to $1,747.00 [...]

2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin SetDebut sales are in for three newly released United States products, including the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set, 2011 Lucretia Garfield First Spouse Gold Coins and the 2011-P Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.

While none of the products were tip-top-sellers for the Mint, two of them did show up in the bureau’s top-ten weekly sales list.

Appearing in the third spot was the 2011 Quarters Circulating Coin Set. Released Tuesday, November 29, collectors scooped up [...]

Precious Metals CommentarySpot metals dealings opened with losses in all but palladium once again this morning. Gold dropped $9 to the $1720.50 mark while silver declined 50 cents to $32.27 per ounce. Platinum fell $10 to the $1,512 bid level.

Market participants are in the midst of the traditional year-end book-squaring/window-dressing/portfolio reshuffling frenzy and some will thus take some profitable gold chips off the table.

Thus, apart from news headlines-induced counterintuitive rallies or sell-offs, the volatility that such year-end preparations bring about will be amply on display for a couple more weeks. Still, the current behavior of gold appears to have even the pros publicly declaring that they are a tad baffled [...]

2011-P Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated CoinInterest in America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Coins continues to dwindle based on United States Mint sales data. The latest issue in the series to show slower opening sales is the collectible 2011-P Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.

Collectors purchased 8,662 between its release on Tuesday, November 29 and Monday December 5. Priced at $229.95, the United States Mint registered total sales of just over $1.99 million. While the amount is mostly in line with expectations, the Olympic uncirculated coin is now noted for having the slowest start in the five ounce series [...]

Fine Gold BarsGold declined slightly Tuesday, registering a second straight day of losses. Prices, however, recovered sharply from earlier lows. Markets were jittery following S&P’s threat to expand credit downgrades to 15 European Union countries. Technical selling also pressured the yellow metal, according to some analysts.

Gold prices shed $2.70, or 0.2 percent, to $1,731.80 an ounce in the February futures contract on the Comex in New York. Gold moved [...]
